When do our brains stop developing?
When we’re young, parents introduce us to a slew of developmental toys to assist with healthy and intelligent brain growth. But do we ever stop developing our brains?
Anyone remember the colourful soccer ball sized sphere that you could fit different shapes into? It then split apart to get the pieces out so you can try again.
But when we become adults what we don’t realise is that we’re still doing that, just at a higher skill level.
These come in the form of various adult activities and challenges that we face, at work, at home, in our social life.
Cooking something, figuring out a DIY project or having to deal with a difficult situation at work, keeps our brain active, engaged and growing, just like an exercised muscle.
But, has the convenience era had an effect on our adult brain development? Is the super easy existence we’ve created, devoid of challenges and engaging activities, having an effect on our adult brain development?
Just like an unexercised muscle, are we losing critical thinking skills? Where we are easily accepting anything introduced to us without the skills to analyse and question ideas?
So I guess the answer to the question is, they stop developing when we stop using them enough.
