Shea Butter
Shea butter is a product of the African shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa). Shea butter is the fat extracted from the shea kernel. Shea nuts are a wild-growing, natural ingredient that have been harvested and processed in West and East African countries for centuries. Get Zen uses unrefined shea butter, which has a natural, nutty aroma that processed shea butter does not. Additionally, further processing of the butter can remove up to 95% of its natural vitamins!

Shea butter contains components that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, such as triterpenes. These are a group of compounds that may aid with cell migration, collagen deposition and cell proliferation, which is the process in which cells grow and divide.
Products like shea butter that contain linoleic acid have anti-inflammatory effects on the skin and hydration boosting properties.
Shea butter also has antioxidant properties that help neutralize free radical damage from sun exposure. It’s also said to help boost collagen production, which gives the skin its plump look and it also helps promote cell regeneration, which can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Organic Coconut Oil
Studies show that coconut oil can boost the moisture content of dry skin. It may also improve the function of the skin, helping prevent excessive water loss and protecting you from external factors, such as infectious agents, chemicals, and allergens. Coconut oil is comprised of a unique combination of natural fats, which makes it useful in treating the skin. These fatty acids include linoleic acid (which can be beneficial for acne-prone skin) and up to 50% lauric acid (which is hydrating and antimicrobial). Studies show that coconut oil—which is extracted from the meat of mature coconuts—may improve skin barrier function and repair, has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, fights the signs of skin aging, and makes an effective moisturizer, per a 2018 review of research published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences.

Refined Sweet Almond Oil
Sweet almond oil contains  Vitamin E, which  keeps skin cells healthy, protects skin from UV radiation damage, and helps skin to look smooth, supple, and free of fine lines. The fatty acids help skin retain moisture and can heal chapped and irritated skin. Additionally, vitamin A in the oil, can help to reduce acne.

Vitamin E is also an extremely powerful antioxidant. Oxidative stress (resulting when your body does not have enough antioxidants to fight free radicals) is a major cause of the deterioration of skin’s collagen, which keeps skin looking supple and wrinkle-free. Antioxidants combat the effects of oxidative stress.

Sweet almond oil is also mostly non-comedogenic, meaning it’s unlikely to clog pores.

Cold Pressed Moringa Oil
Moringa Oil contains essential nutrients and vitamins that aid with the visible effects of aging, including:

  • Vitamin E which has anti-inflammatory properties and helps maintain healthy skin and hair while strengthening the body’s cell function, and overall skin health.
  • Vitamin A helps to build collagen in the skin by increasing blood flow to the surface of the skin.
  • Vitamin C and Phenols act as very effective antioxidants and protect DNA from free radicals, reduce fine lines and also help to repair sun-induced photo damage to skin cells.
  • Cytcytokinins, and primarily zeatin, which is a potent plant growth hormone found in Moringa Oil. It helps to promote cellular growth and delays the aging process by supporting and nourishing cell tissue.
  • Fatty acids – it contains a high content of mono-saturated oleic acid (omega 9), which helps to improve the skin’s natural protective barrier and keeps skin looking younger by being hydrated and plumper.

Pure Pomegranate Seed Oil
Pomegranate seed oil is made from the seeds of a pomegranate, or Punica granatum. It’s used in skin care due to its potent fatty acid, polyphenol, as well as other antioxidant properties like vitamin C, anthocyanins, ellagic acid, and tannins. Antioxidants provide environmental protection against stressors like UV damage and pollution. These antioxidants as well as anti-inflammatory properties of Pomegranate seed oil, make it useful in helping decrease the signs of ageing such as wrinkles and dark spots.

Pomegranate seed oil also contains punicic acid, an omega-5 fatty acid that helps to hydrate and prevent moisture loss as well as antimicrobial properties, which helps fight P. acnes bacteria, responsible for acne.

Additionally, it may also promote the synthesis of collagen and elastin, as well as promoting skin regeneration, tissue repair, and wound healing.
